Guys, Girls and any other weird & wonderful creatures that lurk within Gloucestershires band scene, young & old, past & present this is for your attention.[/b]
My name is Marie Brown formerly of K3 and I would like to play the shepherd and round up everyone who played part in No Ego.
Everyone under the age of 21-22 are permitted to say " NO WHAT??" anyone over the age of 22 will not be forgiven as it was the making of the music scene's Growth in our good county.
A few years ago a few brain cells peaked out from a stagnant over gigged and underplayed front man that went by the name of Ti Green. This crazy man from the band FREELOADER was like the rest of the struggling musicians and non gigging bands - pi**ed off.
Things were a tad different then as bands were under massive pressure to bring in an army of human wallets walking through venue doors to fatten the bellies of greedy promoters. It was roughly £5 per head and for their efforts, bands would receive nothing except grief if they didn't drag in an audience of ££££££ fans, to order. The consequence of numbers being short would be never playing that venue again..........
Recording studios & rehearsal rooms were the other wolf in sheep's clothing. The fortunes charged by incompetent bodies that left you with poor and in some cases incomplete tracks / Eps left bands hitting brick walls and giving up....
Burn a bra!!!!!! That couple of almost active brain cells when grouped together with roughly 45 bands came back to life and became a voice, A really big voice when backed by every other musician being held back by the above facts. Also press and media helped.
The objective was to prove that we didn't need promoters breeding greed. We didn't need over expensed rehearsal and recording studio's and we didn't need to charge unfair amounts on the venue door to make the evening profitable.
We also opened doors for never gigged bands to play and be heard.
NO EGO was born. Door entry 0.99p. Venue - The Brunswick.
Sound engineer ( The wonderful Kerry) .
15 bands of any age, genre and ability pulled out of a hat on the night. No Soundchecks!! No Running order or preference of time slot - NO EGO!!!!!!!
Result : over 350 heads in through the door. Media and press coverage. Our objective was met and a lot of good people were brought together by something they loved.
The Brunswick gave upstairs as a Rehearsal room £5.00 for the rent of drum kit FOR THE WHOLE NIGHT.
Farmyard Studios came in to play ( that was when Simon had a ****gy/slash mop)!!! Anyone who has recorded with simon will know His talent and offerings. He is a fine example of sticking to your roots and remembering why you do what you do. It will hardly ever be for the money.
ANYWAY........... I think its time to reunite. I would love to see anyone that either took part or attended NO EGO. See where bands like (The pony club - Good Mother Lizard - Freeloader - 3 second memory and many others are now. Did they find THEIR success?
Get in touch and we will arrange a reunion for the very near future back at the Brunswick..
I think I feel an event with a message brewing, DO YOU??
