ABIGAIL Hopkins, daughter of Sir Anthony Hopkins, is set to release her new album in March.
Born and brought up in London, surrounded by the arts, Abigail naturally developed a passion for music at an early age.
When she was seven, she casually picked up a guitar at school and from then on she was hooked. She took up classical guitar lessons thereafter.
As a child she listened to a lot of classical music. Encouraged to read extensively, Abigail also developed a fascination with words and imagery.
"I loved composing music in my head and the emotions and imaginative power music evoked in me," she said.
When she was 12, however, she had a revelation that acting was the path she should take, following her father.
She followed that through and acted in the films 'Shadowlands', 'Remains of The Day' and 'A Few Selected Exits', as well as playing a variety of roles in the theatre.
But her love of music and writing lyrics always stayed with her, she said.
"Using words with melodies seems one of the most powerful ways of communicating a wide range of emotions," she added.
In 2002, Abigail established her own record label, Possessed Records and released her debut album, 'Smile Road' to critical acclaim.
She worked with talented musican-producers John Winfield and Keith Osborne, striking an immediate musical rapport. She performed at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas in 2004, including many new songs which now exist on her new album 'Blue Satin Alley', set for release on March 26 along with single, Set Them Free.
Produced by John Winfield and Keith Osborne, Blue Satin Alley was recorded, mixed and mastered in just 12 days. The album is out March 5 on Possessed Records and distributed by Proper Music.
